(Updated August 2022) As of June 2021, Facebook opened up the capability to promote Instagram reels using their ads platform. For social media marketers, this is great news.
Before we dive in, a quick note: If you are trying to find out how to promote a reel in the same way you boost a post – the quick answer is you can’t.
Unfortunately at this time, there is no way to simply “boost” a reel the way you do with static images.

First and foremost, to advertise within the Reels section of Instagram, you must have a Facebook Ads Manager account.
Don’t have one? Set one up – it’s free and easy.
Then, follow these steps carefully. By the time you get to the end of the list, you’ll be ready to publish your first Instagram Reels Ad placement! This will ensure the Reel you use for your advertisement will be seen by the right people.
How to Promote Instagram Reels
1: After opening Ads Manager, click Create:
2: Choose a Brand Awareness Campaign
3: Name Your Campaign, Ad Set and Ad
4: (In The Ad Set) Choose a Budget and Time Frame
5: Choose A Saved Audience (or build a new one)
6: Select Manual Placements
7: Select Instagram Reels
8: (In the Ad) Choose Your Page/IG Account
9: Upload The Reel, Add Your Copy and Website URL if Applicable
